Credits measure usage, not message count.
Each completed task uses at least one credit. Usage includes the system prompt, the conversation so far, and images. We reserve a conservative estimate first, within your balance. Actual usage settles at the displayed model rates; longer replies may cost more than the estimate. Unused reserved credits return when the task finishes. KIE-reported cached input does not consume user credits.

For example, 2,000 input plus 1,000 output tokens uses seven credits with Haiku 4.5 or two credits with Haiku 5.5; 20,000 input plus 4,000 output tokens uses forty with Haiku 4.5 or ten with Haiku 5.5. Input safety checks do not add a separate user charge.
When a task does not finish
Empty, refused, and invalid results do not consume your credits. Stopping after a visible answer settles confirmed usage; if usage is unknown, the reservation is reconciled and released within 15 minutes. Regenerating starts a new task and uses credits again.
